Ministerial Staff

Our Ministerial Staff includes (from left) Rev. Shirley LaCour, our Midweek Worship Leader; Rev. Dr. Frederick O. Murph, Senior Minister; Rev. Dr. Joyce Henderson, Christian Education and Counseling Ministry; and Rev. John Nance, Prayer Ministry.

Weekly Schedule:

  • Monday - Male Chorus rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday - Pastor's Bible Study at 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday -Mid-day Bible Study at 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday - Buds of Promise Children's Choir rehearsal at 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday - Majestic Voices Youth Choir rehearsal at 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday - Bible Study at 6 p.m.
  • Thursday - Youth Night, 2nd & 4th weeks, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday - Frederick O. Murph Mass Choir rehearsal at 7:00 p.m.
  • Organizations and Auxiliaries:

    "There's A Place For You at Brookins!" We extend a hearty welcome and invite you to participate in the activities at Brookins Community A.ME. Church. We have 22 organizations and auxiliaries ranging from the traditional - Usher Boards, Music Ministry, and Missionary Society - to the non-traditional such as Singles Club, Medical Guild, and Radio/TV Club..     Bereavement Committee:

    Assists the family of the deceased in grief support, funeral arrangements, memorial services and others needs.

    Class Leaders Council:

    Duties include maintaining contact with new members, visiting the general membership and providing spiritual support.

    Church (Sunday) School:

    Conducts classes in religious knowledge to instruct the membership and advance the cause of Christianity.

    Couples Club:

    Develops activities to strengthen and promote the family unit.

    Hostess Guild

    Serves as hostesses/hosts at special events sponsored by the church.

    Job Information Center:

    Counsels and assists in locating training programs for unemployed or disadvantaged persons.

    Lay Organization:

    Organizes and trains lay members (all members who are not elders or deacons) in the history, tradition and principles of African Methodism.

    Medical Guild:

    Sponsors health clinics and seminars for the congregation and community.

    Membership & Evangelism Commission:

    Promotes church attendance, distributes religious literature, visits the sick and shut-in, develops prayer groups and other activities to spread the Gospel.

    Sons of Allen/Men of Brookins:

    Organizes men in Christian fellowship and develops activities to strengthen the role of men in the church.

    Music Department:

    Enhances worship through music. Coordinates and oversees the choirs for Brookins Sunday services at 8am, 11am and 6pm, including the Frederick O. Murph Mass Choir, M&M Male Chorus and Majestic Voices Youth & Young Adult Choir.

    New Members Institute:

    Instructs new members in the doctrines of Christianity and African Methodism through a 11-week series of classes.

    Public Relations Commission:

    Disseminates information to the congregation and the community about the doctrine, programs, procedures and activities of the church.

    Radio/TV Club:

    Seeks sponsors and support for the Radio and television Ministry to help spread the Gospel.

    Scouts Organization (Boys/Girls):

    Instructs boys and girls in leadership, self-confidence, independence and Christian values.

    Singles Club:

    Coordinates fellowship opportunities and fun activities for unmarried men and women.

    Steward Board:

    Appointed by the pastor to oversee the financial and spiritual needs, and prepare for the future of the church.

    Trustee Board:

    Nominated by the pastor and elected by the membership to oversee the physical plant and real estate needs of the church.

    Usher Board:

    Official doorkeepers of the house of God; welcome visitors and directs them to comfortable seats; ensures that order is kept in and around the church; aids the pastor in making the worship service a success. Includes Senior, Men's, Ladies, Youth and Junior Usher Boards.

    Welcome Club:

    Greets members and visitors at the door before each worship service. Coordinates and presents other activities to promote family togetherness.

    Willing Workers:

    Assists the pastor and church organizations with projects to enhance church operations and activities.

    Womens Missionary Society (WMS):

    Develops fellowship activities to aid women and youth grow in the knowledge of Christ.

    Young Peoples Division:

    Offers training programs, leadership experience and religious education to the youth of Brookins AME.
